Employees at a Middlesbrough company are joining with their colleagues, across the North sea in Norway, to mark a historic moment. In April this year, StS Resources & Technology’s parent company, StS Gruppen, will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary.
Founded back in 1972, StS Gruppen, has since grown into one of the leading suppliers of insulation, scaffolding and surface treatment services in Scandinavia. Throughout the years the company has consolidated on many areas but has been able to retain its competitive edge and individuality as a pioneering business.
The company began life as AS Stillas Service who provided scaffolding, protective covering rigging and transport. A year after being formed they received their first oil related assignment; Deep Sea Driller based at Laksevag shipyard. Further major projects followed at Mongstad, CCB and Stord. In the 80's the company changed its name to StillasService AS and throughout the 90's new areas of expertise were added to the portfolio of services. The business services now included industrial rope access and they had also developed the world's first mobile, reusable habitat system.
During 2002 - 2006 the company further expanded the range of services with the acquisition and merger with various other businesses. By 2007 the company was known as StS Gruppen AS and had become the one-stop supplier of insulation, scaffolding and surface treatment services.
2007 also saw the creation of StS Resources & Technology Ltd; a subsidiary company based in Middlesbrough to supply skilled labour to the Norwegian market. Both businesses, in Norway and UK, have been successful in winning major contracts that have helped to keep the company buoyant through tough economic times and the arrival of such a landmark, in relation to the years of operation, has given everyone associated with StS a positive boost.
